From ERCO halogen to ERCO LED: In the mid-1990s, ERCO equipped Kiasma Museum Helsinki with the then status quo of halogen lighting technology. Now, after an extended renovation phase, the gallery and exhibition rooms have been relit with LED technology. Eclipse, Pollux and Parscan spotlights now produce energy-efficient lighting with the best quality of light and high visual comfort. The original lighting concept remains unchanged.
At the time, architect Steven Holl had paid particular attention to lighting in the rooms. He designed the gallery spaces to let in natural light. However, the extreme lighting conditions in the Nordic latitudes, with harsh summer sun and a shortage of light in winter, also require the right assistance of artificial lighting. In addition, directional lighting is necessary for the flexible lighting of temporary exhibitions and for accentuating sculptural exhibits in particular. By installing singlets for spotlights, the lighting designers at L'Observatoire International found a solution that met Steven Holl's expectations - a solution that is also implemented today with modern LED spotlights.
