The second stage of Sydney Metro opened to great excitement in October 2024. Running from Chatswood on the north shore, under the world-famous harbor and out to Sydenham in the inner west, this major infrastructure development has changed the face of public transport in the city.
Barangaroo station, at the northern end of the stretch of offices, residential towers, restaurants and bars that comprise the Barangaroo development, adds a much-needed transport link to a busy hub. From locals living in historic Millers Point, to commuters and diners accessing the facilities, Barangaroo Station is reached in just minutes from key city stations and from North Sydney.
Starting with the elegant glass-walled entrance pavilion, Barangaroo station is an architectural delight, courtesy of Architectus and Foster + Partners. Specialist lighting designers Webb Australia Group added a sustainable and maintenance-friendly lighting design, including ERCO Downlights flanking the entrance, and continuing throughout the station for a visually comfortable result. The warm sandstone walls are complemented by the 3000K colour temperature of the luminaires, whilst station name boards are accented by directional spotlights for instant recognition of place. A clever rail system above the escalators gives access to luminaires installed in the 30-foot high ceilings for ease of maintenance.
