Qualitative lighting design
The reception area of the Skidmore, Owings & Merrill architectural practice in London features a clear, generous spatial impression. The lighting concept emphasises this character with a uniform distribution of brightness on the walls. Three different lighting methods are used for the three zones of reception desk, waiting area and corridor. Using recessed luminaires creates subtle architectural details, with a focus not on the luminaires but on the impact of light in the architecture.
Wallwashing for a wide spatial impression
Uniform wallwashing behind the reception desk and to the right of the waiting area creates a bright, friendly atmosphere for clients. Because the vertical planes make up a major part of the field of view, wallwashing has the important task of generating a bright spatial impression in the reception area.
Double wallwashing for good orientation
Floodlighting of the walls along the long corridor creates a pleasant atmosphere and attractive route marking in the office. Thanks to the consistent luminaire installation, the round construction of the wallwashers is elegantly continued in the form of double wallwashers in the corridor. The number of luminaires is halved compared to normal wallwashers due to the special lighting technology of the double wallwashers.
Lighting with flexible alignment
Illumination of the reception desk is also elegantly implemented with recessed luminaires. Directional spotlights can be aligned to the horizontal work plane and provide efficient lighting with narrow light beams.
