On the shores of Lake Constance and with a direct view of the Alps, Therme Lindau offers guests a wide range of recreational and relaxation facilities. The lighting concept was implemented with ERCO recessed luminaires and outdoor projectors. The luminaires are extremely robust and offer outstanding visual comfort.
4a Architekten from Stuttgart are responsible for the new building: the building block facing the lake offers a diversity of wellness facilities on several levels, ranging from saunas, spas, sports and family pools to fitness rooms, event areas and gastronomic facilities. Generous window fronts create maximum openness and a flowing transition to the lake shore - this is designed as a landscaped outdoor area with loungers for relaxation.
The lighting concept, by lighting designer Julissa Marina Ormeño Blanco in collaboration with Ingenieurbüro Schwarz, achieves a finely tuned balance of functional general lighting and atmospheric accents for the interior. The challenge lay in the realisation with luminaires that robustly defy the conditions on location whilst at the same time guaranteeing a high level of visual comfort for both guests and staff.
The lighting designers specified ERCO luminaires for implementation of the lighting concept because these offer a wide range of light distributions and wattages in each luminaire range, and at the same time are sufficiently robust to meet the high demands of a thermal spa. Thus, Quintessence downlights were not only chosen for their excellent glare control. With high IP65 protection they are dust-tight and protected against water jets, as well as being corrosion-resistant thanks to a special surface treatment. This is essential for the humid, chlorine-laden environment.
Lightscan floodlights also complied with the high official requirements in terms of illuminance and uniformity of light in the pool area.
The interplay of ERCO recessed luminaires and floodlights supports the diverse uses and at the same time achieves optimum visual comfort – visitors are intuitively guided from space to space and special highlights such as the pool area are emphasised and set in scene. Safety has to be ensured in the bathing areas in addition to a pleasant atmosphere, and there must also be sufficient light for the service staff to work in.
Lightscan as well as Quintessence and Skim downlights were installed in different sizes and prove to be the optimal solution for the complexity of the lighting task thanks to various light distributions, high visual comfort and high luminous intensity.
