National Museum of Korea, Seoul

“Lacquerware of East Asia (Korea, Japan, and China)” was a special exhibition born out of the collaboration among the National Museum of Korea, the Tokyo National Museum of Japan, and the National Museum of China. This 2024 special exhibition aimed to showcase a representative craft of Asia through lacquerware. Perfect in its distinctive style and respective to each country, this exhibition brought together 46 uniquely historical pieces from the 14th to 19th centuries. All three countries’ lacquerware was able to showcase their unique styles, colours, and craftsmanship.

Lacquer wood was the main material used in these beautiful exhibition pieces. It requires light that does not generate heat, as well as minimal light damage. As per the requests and requirements for the luminaires to be small, placed at the top or bottom of each exhibition case with no glare, as well as to retain the lacquer wood’s natural colour, ERCO delivered once again - with Axis.

The Axis showcase luminaires ensured minimum heat emission while providing sufficient illumination of the historical pieces. Highlighting its flexibility, the light distribution of the luminaires varied according to the size of the artefacts and relics. Every angle and distance were mindfully measured and planned to ensure the best lighting distribution. The use of the Casambi Bluetooth system provided easier and more careful adjustments of the luminaire’s brightness levels, ensuring optimal display. ERCO sets the benchmark once more and continues to establish one of the best lighting qualities ever imagined.

Creating something truly magical with our luminaires, it is no wonder that Axis is for big magic on a small stage.
